It’s happening

Now it’s happening, and it is all official, and you heard it hear first. I am moving to the USA. I will work at the online fashion company Cuyana. Are you excited?

There is a visa in my passport. A sticker the size of one passport page. It has taken me over a year to get someone to finally stick that sticker where it is now. There is something utterly astounding, almost scary, about finally getting something that you’ve been wanting for a while. I am not really sure what it is. Maybe it just seems too surreal, maybe you had already prepared a million good excuses in your head as to why you didn’t need whatever it is you once sought out to get anyways, and it wouldn’t matter if they didn’t give it to you, and you’d be happy regardless, and so why don’t they just keep it for themselves, and anyways, you didn’t even wanted this in the first place. Actually, you did though.

So here I am – bags packed, tickets printed, ready to go. I have said good bye to my grandparents, whom I will miss terribly, I will say good bye to my mother, whom I’ll miss just as much, tomorrow morning by the train tracks.

I am not really sure what’s expecting me. Other than that the next thing that is almost out of reach—but only almost, of course—is probably just around the corner waiting for me.
